70 urethane nose- NOS or Reproduction?
Is it worth the gobs of money for a NOS urethane nose or are the reproduction ones adequate. If so, which company would you suggest has the best. This is for a 70 Z/8 RS.

IF....And that is a Big if, you can find a NOS one..buy it.
I have seen very few of these for sale, and they were going for big $$$$$...Close to $1k if I remember correctly. Due to the availibilty and cost, you will most likely be best off with a repro piece followed by some custom fitting. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...s/confused.gif |

I've heard the repro's take alot of work to fit right.

just like the 69 enduros, the repros will fit and look right with a LOT of work by a very qualified patient technician

There are urethane repair kits available. I think Classic Industries used to carry them. Depending on how far gone your original is that may be an avenue to try.

Re: 70 urethane nose- NOS or Reproduction?
May I please add my .02 ........ If nothing else I have a small amount of knowledge about misc 70-73 Camaro components.
With all due respects to this site and forum, this topic does belong over at www.nastyz28.com where so many more 70 Camaro enthusiasts can/would be able to contribute useful comments. I have never experienced or knowingly seen a repop R/S urethane nose in person. I have only read many comments over the years alluding to there misfit. I do know that the factory original G.M. pieces were molded/bonded over a raw unpainted steel frame, with only the four mounting tabs protruding on the rear side. Somehow water finds its way inside and the metal starts to rust. Over time the rusting process causes the blistering, warping, and the delamination/looseness so often seen with these noses. No amount of OUTSIDE massaging or repair will correctly repair the INSIDE cause of the problem. I read where one fellow cut/sliced completely through one end of the urethane, so as to completely remove it. He them sandblasted, etched and epoxy primered the steel. Using a bonding material such as may be available from www.urethanesupply.com he then reapplied the cleaned original nose piece over the preped steel. This was done having the upper header/lower valance bolted together to use for fitting purposes. A lot of work, but evidently this is a viable alternative if you have a decent core to start with. There are often used ones on EBAY, in various good, better and best conditions........ I will post some pics of a NOS example.............. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v4...l4Surround.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v4...llSurround.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v4...cs/RSNose2.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v4...cs/RSNose3.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v4...cs/RSNose4.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v4...cs/RSNose5.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v4.../012041331.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v4...ontRSFacia.jpg |
