What Hurst auto shifters were used back in the day

Here's a Supercar historical question:

Back in the good old days, when automatic equipped Camaro's,
Chevelles, and Nova's were ordered, what shifters were offered
by the dealers? I believe Yenko offered a his-and-hers style
Hurst shifter - didn't they? Also, Hurst made some other
kind of automatic shifter that used a strange pattern
( a sort of zig-zag pattern ) and the shifter ball had that
pattern on it. I remember seeing one in a Camaro years ago
but can't remember if it was dealer installed or not. Anybody
know what this particular Hurst shifter was called? Anyone
here have a day 2 car with either of these two Hurst shifters?

Hurst offered thier "Dual Gate" shifter in the 68 442 that were equipped with automatics from the factory. It was kind of a zig zag thing. But that dosent answer your question now, does it?

apparently used as early as 64 http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1964-Hurs...bayphotohosting https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/dunno.gif

here's a claim that it was used on 69 Yenko Camaro

John,

Great! Does your HDG shifter use a cable or linkage rod?
Does the reverse lockout still work? How about a neutral
safety switch and backup lights? I'd like to know how this
all works if you can spare some more input time. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/dunno.gif

Here's a picture of the other Hurst "zig-zag" shifter I was
referencing earlier. Anyone know what it is/was? I think
it may have been an AutoStick, but those seem to be a straight
pattern instead of this one.

I'm not sure that would work on a GM car without some sort modification... ad says its for a Mopar

Daniel,

I noticed that too. However, the guts of the shifter, the
chrome, and the face plate are all NOS. That's got to get the
blood boiling. I'd bet the modifications wouldn't be that
tough to get it to work in a Camaro or Chevelle.

The shifter with the zig-zag pattern is an Auto-Stick ----I had Motion stick one in the my Chevelle when they first came out--late'70 or in '71. I used a neutral switch off a manual GTO activated by a bracket at the base of the shifter .The Car had to be in park to start...I just put a toggle-switch for the back-up lights under the dash...to pass inspections......Isn't it the same one they used on the Yenko Deuce....

The auto stick was used in deuces. They were shipped as column auto. The Hurst shifter was dealer installed at Yenko. I have the original one in my car. Starts in neutral. No back up lights. Earl
