1968 Camaro RS Headlight Questions
 

I have a 1968 Yenko replica ('69 Stripes) with hideaway healights. The only parts of the headlight are the doors, nothing to make them open or close. I was thinking about going with electric motors over the original vacuum only because i thought it would be cheaper and easier. This is my 2nd camaro (1967 and 1968) and im only 17, so im pretty strapped for cash.

I saw on 'RicksFirstGen' that 1967 RS Camaro's have motors that run their healights, and they're only about $200.00 for the pair (Link Here). But for 1968 and 1969 RS motors, i can't find them for less than $500, even on ebay. Does anyone know where to get cheaper headlight motors?

Also, what changed on the 1968 headlights that makes it so you cannot use the 1967 motors on them??

'68 Camaro RS headlight doors were vacuum operated and did not use motors. There is a vacuum reservoir tank along with a series of vacuum lines. My '68 SS/RS had this set up and the doors worked very slowly. I don't know how fast the '67 doors opened with the electric motors.

Craig,

There is a guy on eBay that sells a motorized hide-away
head light door modification over the vacuum system.

I have no idea if this will work, but perhaps you can
find him and ask his opinion.

Is there any chance that these motors would be able to be fit onto my '68?? If so, how hard would it be?

Craig,

You have a couple of options:

1. Purchase OEM equipment (EXPENSIVE)

2. Purchase reproduction equipment (around a grand)

3. Go with an electric conversion from one of the places mentioned above (pricing is more reasonable than vacuum)

4. Fab up your own motors and actuators (fairly cheap, but you have to be able to perform the work)

By the way, HERE'S THE LINK to one of the guys on ebay that sells a kit that uses late model motors.

Never used it but for $70.00 it may be worth a shot.
