careful what you wish for..........

Engine builder asked me how I wanted the car to perform.
I told him to make sure it has a smooth idle and lots of torque to light the tires up if I stomp on it.Here's the results.. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4zRV5baXBxg

Yeah, that power is no joke. It's a little-known fact that any big-block Firebird/TA up to '79 will do an insane, airshow-style burnout-- It's the high-school and zits engineering combo of high axle ratio, heavy/light front/ rear, respectively, and lots of torque.

I have first-hand experience w/a '74 RA 455 Formula, 3.08 axle, TH-400. Laugh if you wish, Chevy-boys, but from a stop, that thing would actually get into third gear during burnout, with speedo well over 100 mph until it started to catch speed. It was insane-- Tire smoke would come inside the car!

I thought I heard yours shift into high...? Am I smoking something (pardon the pun)?

Aw yes, the sweet smell of tire rubber in the morning (and into the afternoon from the extent of the burnout). Great video. THANKS! https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...iggthumpup.gif

That is cool....However, I had to laugh at the poor guy stuck behind the video camera who tried his best to suppress his gagging on the smoke.. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/grin.gif https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ns/burnout.gif

We put a 1970 360 hp 455 in our '72 Lemans. It has a 230 degree .480" lift cam and headers. The 235 70 Goodyears radials are no traction at all. It will light the tires just getting onto it in low gear at 25-30 mph. 60-90 mph it will pull our L78 Chevelle by 2 1/2 car lengths so it isn't all bottom end power. These engines were rated at 500 ft lb of torque from the factory. Most people don't realize the performance to be had from a Pontiac. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/wink.gif Would love to have an HO engine to play with. Perhaps Bruno and I could do a side by side burnout.
