What is the best way to remove single layers of paint?
I am trying to uncover each layer of color.. any help would be great...

Agreed. Not necessarily the easiest way, but most likely the best way.

Yep there is no short cut I know of for this one.... wet sanding is the safest route for sure.

Re: Removing layers of paint.

It appears like you have
1. dip primer (red oxide) then
2. grey primer then
3.original color charcoal grey or silver,
4. black primer or black paint
5 grey primer
6.white paint
7. red and blue paint that appear to be within the same layer and may be blended together (in the 2nd pic it appears like they are)
8. hugger orange
9. grey primer
10. Current color White with red graphics

Hey Rich, When you repaint that car can you duplicate that whole pattern. That looks real 70's. Psycho- delic! https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/haha.gif https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...iggthumpup.gif

I thought it was a Rorschach ink blot test ---looked like two naked women running across a meadow.............

Re: Removing layers of paint.

What exactly are you trying to determine? The original color, or a clue of what the car spent part of it's existence as. ie: race car, custom show car, ?.
First what brand is it, and what year? That will help as different mfg's used different sub coats. It's also difficult to know as there appears to be cut throughs to bare matal from previous pnt jobs.
My Guess is that it appears to be a GM with the usual black primer, with a grey sealer, and was originally white. The rest is up for grabs. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/beers.gif

Joe, I can find the meadow, but where's the naked ladies. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...s/confused.gif
