Torque thrust d center caps
 

Just trying to get a opinion on the plastic center caps on the torque thrust d wheels.Do you guys think the short billet caps from the polished torque thrust 2 look better on the D spoke or the standard plastic caps like the old style orignals?

I prefer the original style plastic caps. Nothing looks better. Be careful when unwrapping them if they are packaged on a card and shrink-wrapped--the wrap can stick to the chrome and peel it off. I have had to enlarge the mounting holes in the caps for them to fit on original '60s wheels.

Thanks for the input,427 TJ I put a set of the new d spokes on my 69 chevelle SS.The shorter caps look nice but I am trying to get the car to look as if it would of if I bought in 1969.I dont care for the more modern billet wheels on the old muscle cars.

They sell an alternative set that say SS on them.I have a set on my 67 chevelle SS and they are metal not plastic! Look nice in my book.

Be careful here...modern American Torq Thrust caps are a bigger pattern than the original American wheels of the 60s-70s. They aren't interchangeable. You need small pattern old style caps (American does still produce these) for the original smaller hub opening in the original wheel design, and the modern shorty billet style will only fit modern wheels. The SS, GTO, Ford, and other variations are all based on this new bigger diameter cap and are for use on new wheels only.

I know it's a subtle difference that's often only learned after buying the wrong set of caps.

Generally speaking, newer Americans use taper seat lug nuts like steel wheels use and big pattern center caps, while original 60s-70s Americans use mag shank nuts w/ washers and small pattern center caps.

Thanks for the reply,I have the newer style Torque thrust ds.I am kind of leaning toward the orignal style caps.

And, in my experience, these caps needed their screw holes enlarged slightly so that they'd fit the old wheels.
