Value of a 70 Monte SS 454
I know of a 70 Monte SS 454 that may be for sale, and will need a complete resto. I looked at the car, and it appears to be all there with some extra parts as well. The owner is leaning towards selling it, but has not put a price on the car at this time. He did give me the "Make me an offer" line, but I have no clue as to the cars value now or when it is done. I don't want to offend him with a low offer, but I don't want to overpay for the car either. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ns/naughty.gif

Re: Value of a 70 Monte SS 454
Greg, I found one of these cars about a year ago and the consensus was that it might be worth $20-25K in top restored condition. I don't think there is much of a demand for them yet.

Re: Value of a 70 Monte SS 454
The few '70 and '71 MC SS454s I've seen for sale in the past 2 years (in "needing resto" condition) have been below $10K.

Re: Value of a 70 Monte SS 454
Greg, Seems to me that Ive heard of a annual Monte Carlo show and/or web site. Hopefully someone here knows of such and can link you to more knowledgeable M.C. collectors.
It does sound like a current purchase and full frame off resto could have you upside down ???????? |

If you look up "sleeper" in the dictionary, you'll see a picture of a '70 MC SS.The upside on those cars looks very bright...good luck. |
Re: Value of a 70 Monte SS 454
If you dive into a serious MC SS454 project, you'd be better of doing it because you really like the car rather than as an investment. Even though it is identical to an LS-5 Chevelle SS under the skin, the skin still says grandpa. Which can be pretty cool, especially when one of the 5.0 Mustang boys pulls up next to you and smirks. Until the light turns green, that is. I owned one in the early 1990's and loved it.
Good luck, BCD. |

Re: Value of a 70 Monte SS 454
IF I decide to go for the car, it will be put away for a while until my current project is done. I have always liked the 70-72 Monte body style, as does my Wife....Which will make it easier to get by with..
This car is pretty complete, and is not a total basket case. The seller is kink of "wishy-washy" about the sale, as I have discussed it more than once with him. This is just one of those things that I can take, or leave without losing any sleep. I plan to follow up on the car in the next few weeks, but wanted to get some input as to it's value. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ns/burnout.gif |
Re: Value of a 70 Monte SS 454
Hi,
I have one. They are addictive. I bought mine after I got a 70 monte 350 in trade and drove it a while before selling it. They drive GREAT. There are still some great deals out there on the Monte SS and the 402's are even better. Be careful, many of the 402's are faked into SS's pretty regularly. Some Hints: SS 454's No 4 speed's made No LS6's known Not all SS454's had bucket seats, some were even bucket colum shift, bench colum shift. Not all SS454's had Tach's ALL and ONLY SS454's had the "boxed" rear control arms ALL SS454's had the Load Leveler system. HOWEVER, some 402 Monte's and 350's ordered this system as a RPO, so there are some BB monte's that have the LL system and ARE NOT SS's (the 402's). The SS's had special interior knobs in 71 (not sure about 70?) There may be more, there is a great site www.firstgenerationmontecarlo.com that has bunches if info. Hope this helps, and be careful, they are now faking the SS454's pretty regularly. Rich |
