Paint Mfgs. Who makes paint closest to the orig.

Ive got a 2 Chevelles and a Camaro Im working on. I got all my codes and Mfg #s together and started calling around and I was amazedhttps://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ns/shocked.gif Not one supplier could get me:
1) AA Tuxedo Black, FF Marina Blue, KK Tripoli Turquoise.
I mean havnt these people seen the light?? There are a ton of prospective customers out there and all they can say is "Well this shade comes close https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/dunno.gif or they dont make that anymore and without me supplying them with a chip they are lost!!! Hello!!!!!!!! You havnt seen the gazillion Chevelles painted Marina blue over the years????? Let me know how your quest for the right paint turned out.

We were using Standox from 2003 until mid 2005, Sikkens before that. Standox is a good product, but getting the old paint codes was a pain. Only had a handful or so in their database. Usually had to call the mfg to get them to cross reference the DuPont code.

Right now, we're using the new SW product. They've been much better as far as getting the old color codes. Azure Turquoise (1969, code 55) was not in the system so we talked to our supplier and they were able to find and mix it. Thats the only one so far that we havent been able to mix ourselves.

Havent used PPG or DuPont in several years, but they were also pretty good about the old colors.

We used the SW products when painting my Ash Gold 68..(a very tough color to get right) ...The color match was right on. No tinting or adjusting was necessary.Mix and shoot... https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...iggthumpup.gif

DuPont. I call my jobber with the code and year and th paint shows up here within the hour. He knows what he's doing and he has easy access to all the old GM formulas.

Mrrec, Clone that guy, crate em and ship em here cause not many know what they are doing. It must be the sunshine, or the smog. Are you painting everything now 2 stage?

Understand that I only paint my own cars. I don't use base clear unless it is metallic since you can't color sand metallic without messing it up. I can't see any reason to use clear on top of a solid color (I use urethane)- too deep and too much gloss compared to the old lacquer....
