Another round with a ZL-1 prototype block????
About a month or two ago, we were discussing a ZL-1 block
( boat anchor ) on eBay that existed in its raw as-cast state. That block went for $1,800+, I believe. Well, another one has found its way to eBay. This one has Wayne Guinns name displayed prominantly. I recall asking if that previous ZL-1 rough casting block could have been a prototype because the Winters logo was somewhat unique ( standing proud on a hexagon base ). Well, it seems that the seller of this new ZL-1 block is hinting just that. Check it out. What do you all think? Steve ZL-1 Prototype block? |

Wasn't there was more attempts at tall deck alum. blocks....even complete engine(s) for Can-Am? . Looks more than unmachined....filled cooling passages?

At least some of the Yenko aluminum-blocks also used this Winters logo.

Anders,
A Yenko crested block with the Winters logo as well? I thought I had read somewhere that when Don Yenko took delivery of the remaining ZL-1 blocks Chevy had, the deal was for Yenko to remove the Winters logo's. I wonder if you may have the one & only ZL-1 block like this. Steve |

Thatīs not the only one ! Here is a pic of my friend Hansī NOS Yenko-block with the Winters-logo.
Iīm not an expert on these blocks, but I havenīt heard that story before. I believe Yenko bought the tools to make the ZL1-blocks, then changed them to make the blocks more durable. If Winters made these blocks, and they did, why not have the Winters-logo on them ? |
Re: Another round with a ZL-1 prototype block????
Is the Winters mark on the Yenko blocks w/ 'YENKO' cast into the LF....like the one Barnhardt runs in his car, not the style like Anders has w/ the Yenko Logo? .

I recall reading that GM forced that issue of removing the
Winters logo for liability reasons. It was many years ago that I read this, but I do remember......... Steve |
