Big Block casting # Hi perf ?

Found an old BBC engine very cheap, steamed it off and I see what appears to be some conflicting info.I am hoping you experts could help decipher if I have a good one or just run of the mill BBC. Casting # is 14015445 which if I translate correct is 78-87 454 truck motor 2-4 bolt mains. The weird part is above the oil filter pad is cast hi perf pass. The stamped pad on RF indicates CAF159406,intake is 3931067,cast iron 4bbl. I have not torn it down, but have a friend who wants it for an old truck and I dont want to give it away if its a good one(I do have a 67 RS to play with if it turns out to be a keeper https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/smile.gifAny help/leads would be appreciated.

Take the last digit '5' off the block casting and it's a '445' truck block....and the intake appears to be a '69 item? . Is there more info on the 'stamped pad' extended block/deck surface in front of pass side head? .

Yes, the intake manifold is for a 69.
Passenger, 427, (335hp, 390hp)
Chevelle, 396, (L35, L34)
Camaro, 396 (L35, L34)
Nova, 396 (L34)
All with 4bl Quad.

Nope, although there seemed to be more stamped letters/numbers on a little pad, center front below intake rail ? I guess I need to pull a valve cover and oil pan and see what it is ?

And,why would a truck block have the hi perf pass cast above the oil filter ? Are all big blocks like this ?

Keep in mind these are really passenger car blocks in the light truck series and not the tall 'truck blocks' like 366 etc. . Almost any of the Mk1V stuff is worth putting the grab on but sure getting tough to come by anymore...keep an eye out for 'Burbans/Trucks w/ that little 454 badge in the '73&up grilles. .

Yup,for the price(little enough ! ) I couldnt pass, complete and not full of water/rust,seems like any big block is getting hard to find these days. Thanks for the input,as a side note, how do I go about posting pics ? Customer dropped off a car, sitting in grandmas garage since 1979(when grandpa died) kids put a battery in it and drove it down to me.Want to get it tuned up and drivable ! 1967 mustang fastback,390 Auto,A/C with a working 8 track, original paint, interior everything ! I can barely type after drooling alll over this thing.I realize its not a supercar, but to see one drive in at all, seems kinda cool to me.Tried to give them my corvette and take the mustang but NO WAY,not grandpas old car. What a bummer !

Have you deteremined whether yr motor is a 4 bolt or not? Drop the pan or check out the hole configuration by the oil galley.
