"Sweating" heater hoses???
 

I was out in the garage the other day looking at what I needed for the L79 to get it ready of this season and noticed that my heater hoses were covered in an oily feeling liquid??? Having never seen this before, I posted on a Corvette site that I visit asking what was going on. Two other members noticed the same thing this weekend on their cars, but none of us know why this is happening. One of the guys has brand new hoses!!! So what's going on here? Anyone else notice this before? Inquiring minds want to know!

I don't know what exactly causes it but it is very common at least where I live and can be a real pain in the a$$ and is in fact very sticky. I believe it is a by-product in the rubber production and it leeches out with the climate change. What is weird is that the rad hoses were fine on all 3 cars also...you would think they would be made with similar materials???

Just a guess here, but I assume that you have put some kind of treatment on them. You might have some humidity in the air and the water in the hoses is colder than the air. So when the hoses start 'sweating' they pick up some of the hose treatment and make things feel 'oily'. Maybe this is the answer. stinking CHEAP AZZ RUBBER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! same problem over the last year with Tempo and other brand rubber squeez bulbs for outboards...took me a bit to get a handle on it, it was letting gas weep but even worse was letting it pull air and fuel when running and giving all kinds of grief thinking the carb was fouled as it would not idle very well and even just die from not pulling fuel from the tank just pulling air...bottom line who ever is making the rubber stuff lately SUCKS!! I have that problem with one of my smog hoses - except that it's an original hose from '70! I know why it does it though - I swiped some vinylex on it a few years ago, and it's been sweating ever since https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/frown.gif
