Carb date to Build date question
How soon before a cars build date could the carburator be dated? Is a month too soon? Are 4 months too long? I guess I should mention that this is for a 70 L78 engine. Thanks in advance.https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/beers.gif John

Re: Carb date to Build date question
John the Holly 4557 was built in batches, What are the engine and car build dates. Eric (Vintagemusclecar) Should know.
Most of the 70-L78’s I have seen have the Oct 69 3967477GG carb. |
Re: Carb date to Build date question
Mark, I was thinking of this carb for my car.. My car is a 01C date. Maybe one month is too close.

Re: Carb date to Build date question
John;
One month is about perfect. The generally accepted "window" is 3 months to 1 week before assembly, although there are documented exceptions to this rule. Eric |
Re: Carb date to Build date question
Eric, when you talk about assembly date, you are referring to the "engine assembly date", yes????

Re: Carb date to Build date question
Tom;
Vehicle assembly. I used to go by engine assembly date in order to "play it safe" since at the time I was getting conflicting info on exactly when the carburetors were mated with their engines. Some people were saying when the engine was built, others when the vehicle was built. By initially going off the engine buld date, were someone to use that as their reference point, no one could say the carb was too late for the car. Better a little early than too late. (hope that made sense) Now it seems fairly clear (hope I didn't just jinx myself by saying that https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/blush.gif ) that the carbs weren't installed until the vehicle was being assembled, so that's what I go by now. (Why do I have an uneasy feeling that this could open up a giant can of worms? https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/no.gif ) Eric |
