Does this look Legitimate

Can anyone tell me if this stamping appears to be original?

Want to be sure prior to purchasing.

Thanks.

Dan

Although the engine/suffix number appears Ok, the Vin sequence number looks bad. . It looks like the 7's were added later? . Both should be on their own straight lines, either can be on their own angle etc but straight to itself. . I think EH is 66/67 'Velle w/ L35 396/325 stick? . Is the orig trans in the car? . If so, check the Vin sequence number on it and compare to the engine pad number. . Good luck! ~ Pete

Both sets of numbers were placed in a jig which would yield a straight line of numerals, with all the numbers on the same baseline.

Many 67 Vin's were stamped in that fashion.

I've seen many non-Corvette ID stampings that are all over the board like this one. Not extremely unusual, in my opinion.

Thanks. I have a larger(better) photo of the vin stamp. If need be, I could email it for a better view. Thanks again.

That stamp is correct..IMHO...I recall the exact same stamping on that 396/325hp 67 Chevelle I had a couple years back. No doubt in mind that car was 100% original..2 older phone company guy workers owned it since new. It was legit..

RESTAMP Vin sequence!!!

Looks suspicious for many reasons. Because there is no assembly plant code this must be a corvette engine but EH suffix is for 66 Chevelle 396/325. If it is/was a corvette vin stamp the vin sequence would be in 5/32" letters and it looks as both are 3/16 from the picture. As mentioned earlier they should be in a straight line. The Tonawanda stamps that have them jumbled up should be earlier than May 1965 when the Tonawanda stamp was on the right hand side of the pad, making it difficult to get the vin seguence stamp due to the coolant plug being in the way. After May 1965 the Tonawanda stamp was moved to the left hand side. I suggest you remove all the paint and inspect the full pad and check the block casting date to see if it precedes the build of the car by no more than 3 months. These things along with others will help you make a better decision

Like "Wilma" says it could also be a 67 Chevelle but then it would have an assembly plant code and I didn't see one.

Howard, There is a Z in the sequence. (Fremont Ca) Probably hard to see with the small photo. Thanks.
