69 rally wheel paint formula with greenish hue
Hi guys,
I was wondering if anyone would know what the formula is for the 68-70 or so rally wheel paint with the greenish hue that was used on the Corvettes. I don't know if the Camaros had this odd color as well or if it was just a Corvette thing. From what I have learned is it was mixed wrong and wasn't intended to have this greenish hue to it but Chevrolet decided to use it any ways. Needless to say there is no official GM paint code for it. Any help here would really be appreciated! Thanks. |
Re: 69 rally wheel paint formula with greenish hue
Can anyone point me in the right direction for getting this formula or is it a Corvette only thing?

Re: 69 rally wheel paint formula with greenish hue
When we bought out '72 Lemans, it was a very pale green. I later found out that the car had been painted silver several years before and the green tinge appeared over time. Probably, the same thing has happened with the rally wheels over the years.

Re: 69 rally wheel paint formula with greenish hue
I just went and ordered some ford grey from a 70's granada and had the jobber throw a little green tint into it until i matched the back of the wheel. looks perfect.

Re: 69 rally wheel paint formula with greenish hue
Thanks guys but I'm thinking that this might be a Corvette thing...
Keith I know what you're saying about paint bleed-thru over time but then this odd color would also pertain to the 67 and older Corvettes with these rallys but it does not. It'a a 68-70 or so thing. |
Re: 69 rally wheel paint formula with greenish hue
Back of Wheel (REAR)
GRAY-GREEN DELSTAR DAR #2847 (1977 FORD Dove Gray) Front of Wheel: The PPG # for '67-'69 argent silver is 8568. I don't think GM had a code for Argent Silver...There is no GM code for it in PPG books, it is listed by name as a accent/wheel color. The PPG # is 8568 for Argent Silver. Another option I have not tried but have heard of is the silver/green 1983 Maserati Smoky Quartz Metallic BC/CC. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/beers.gif I would imagine if you have the Argent mixed you could have the jobber add some tint to achive a green hue if desired. Hope some of this helps. Jim |
Re: 69 rally wheel paint formula with greenish hue
Just to be clear, our car had silver paint over silver. Unknown type. It's obvious to me that some silvers do take on a green tint over time, for whatever reason. Did these rims have a green tint when new? I don't know. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...s/confused.gif

Re: 69 rally wheel paint formula with greenish hue
I used paint from Quanta a few years ago and it was nice with a slight greenish tinge. You might contact them for formula as I didn't see it listed for sale on their website.

You can buy it in rattle cans from Ricks First generation with a greenish tint.

Re: 69 rally wheel paint formula with greenish hue
I have a 1998 Quanta Catalog that shows Part#0620A Greenish- Silver Rally wheel paint quart for $24.95.
Part #0620B is spray for $8.50. I don't see this item on their Website catalog anymore. |
