ORIGINAL 69 Camaro trunk weatherstrip
 

Check out these two different NOS trunk weatherstrips that recently sold on ebay.

First one: part number 1-3060942

Hope the links work. I beleive the second one is the real original weatherstrip, same as they left the factory with, and that the first one is a later, more generic replacement. Not sure what the difference is between the two though.

I have a roll of the second one, part number 9829829, that is long enough to do two Camaros. It has several markings molded into it. Has 8436 molded in several places. Has an upper case "K" molded in several places, has "1-6" in one place and "1-27" in another place. Also has an odd symbol that looks like a cross between a "B" and a "D" on its side.

First question: anyone know what the symbols are for? Even thought the same part number as auction 2, the molded in symbols are different.

Second: Am I correct in my assumption that this one (9825829) is the original issue? I have had it since the 70's.

I see auctions for "NOS" trunk weatherstrip from time to time but this is the first one I have seen with that part number.

I can't recall seeing an original car with untouched original weatherstrip having numbers molded into it, but I have seen it on some of the NOS stuff. I think both the weatherstrips you linked could be considered correct. As for the variations of part numbers, I think you answered your own question when you say that one is longer than the other... this same weatherstrip style was used on MANY different GM cars throughout the 60s and early 70s, and likely carried many different part numbers over the years, as well as being packaged in several different lengths. As long as the profile is correct, and you have enough to go around the perimiter of your trunk, the part numbers on the box sorta don't mean much... I've owned and used both, in Camaros, Chevelles, and Novas. I don't really think the molded-in numbers make or break it as "correct" or not. As long as its real GM i'd use it and consider it correct. BTW... i think If you measure that one you have you'll find its just a tad shy to do 2 camaro trunks with it.

I was told and have seen some original trunk weatherstrip that has a white cord that goes thru the center of the WStrip.....the ones today do not have this.... anyone else hear or seen this?

I just recently removed a original trunk weatherstrip from a untouched original car I'm restoring. It had the white twine cord running through it. Probably to keep it from streching, my guess.

Original did have a white twine in it, that is the simplest way to determine factory correct trunk W/S
