SW Tach wiring?

1 Attachment(s)
I've got a Stewart Warner (panel mount) tach. Does it use a sender? If so, can I use the sender from a 2 5/8" tach? Any links to wiring diagrams?

Thanks, Peter

Yes, a panel mount uses the same sender as a pedestal mount... if using it with a standard GM ignition, this would be a 990B monitor box.

This might be a dumb question, but would this (pic attached) box be of any use? https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/dunno.gif Number is 429375...

Re: SW Tach wiring?

Depends on which Tach you use....It will not work on a 970 series tach. That one will require the 990 A or B sender....What tach do you have????Looks like a 960 from the rear....If it is a 960, it is a solid state unit that does not require a sending unit....

Tried to learn what I could (before asking), but other than figuring out that it's a panel-mount, and it has the green line... https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/dunno.gif

Tach face pic included now. If it's self contained that'd make life a little easier. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ns/burnout.gif

Yep,it's a 960.......Good luck! It might be a little slugish. Most are from what I've found. Solid state is not quite that 40 years later...

Thanks guys! Knowing what model it is made a big difference, I'll test it this weekend.
Ironically, after a quick search (using Google) the info I needed came from none other than 68l30! https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ns/worship.gif Posted here back in '02...

Use one of the two posts with out the insulators for a neg,use the post on the left for coil, and the post on the right for 12v.

We have found they are sluggish on the bottom end and go crazy when turning the revs up quickly. In the Yellow beast we run a similar looking tach, but cable drive. Good thing about those, alot cheaper then the ones that require a monitor. In fact, we have two, one a gift from another supercar owner. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...iggthumpup.gif
