Dog dish caps and steelies
What size steel wheel was used on COPOs?
Is it 14" for drum and 15" for disc? Are the dog dish hubcaps the same for 14" and 15"? |
Re: Dog dish caps and steelies
69 COPO camaros used a 14x7 XT coded steel wheel, they worked with the disc brakes due to the 7" width and special offset to clear the calipers. SS cars without optional wheels also used these XT coded wheels. Base level camaros without a wheel upgrade got 14x6 FC coded steel wheels, which indeed used the same dog dish cap, but these wheels only worked on drum brakes. There was no 15" steel wheel on a camaro in 69 aside from the 15x7 rally wheel, which was used on Z/28 and on COPO cars with the 9737 package.

Hey Joe, I got my front bumper off of you. how ya doin? I'd like to check out that Deuce sometime. One more question, can I use 14" caps on 15" steel wheels? Thanks, John Kasecky (Juno's boy)

Re: Dog dish caps and steelies
If the 15" wheels you are using have the dimples around the hub area for a small hubcap, then yes, I would say a dog dish type cap would fit on a 15" wheel, even though they were originally only used on 14's.

Re: Dog dish caps and steelies
When I bought my "COPO" recreation it came with the below 14" wheels and bias ply redlines. So much paint on wheels I cant see code. They are 14x7, so what other code besides XT might they be???? This pic is before I bought, and even though its just a clone, car has been vastly cosmetically improved.
