Trunk detailing

On a Baltimore built 69 chevelle how was the trunk painted?
Meaning under the speckle paint what did the factory have for a finish. EX. red oxide, Black primer?

THANKS
John

Re: Trunk detailing

John,

I have a Baltimore built 69 Chevelle 300 Deluxe with an unrestored trunk. The car is very dry and has 8,700 original miles. Attached are some photos to give you some insight to how they painted these. Some of the shots have some wear-thru areas which gives a hint as to the paint used. This is natural lighting and no flash was used.

Thanks for the pictures Sam. Is your car red? Is this why we see the color under the spatter in those locations?

Sam's car is blue...might be the red oxide primer?

John,

yes the car is blue and I also suspect that it is a red oxide primer with a black coat above that then the spatter paint.
