What are your thoughts on this engine? Any of you Chicago guys know the seller? It looks like this is going to be the engine going in my Beaumont.

Looks like you already bought it----I don't know if I'm reading the description right--He sold you a complete engine --with all parts to put it together except for the carb and manifold is that correct----------??

There are no pistons but pretty much everything else is there. Since I'm not trying to build a date correct car. the date codes or fact that the block has been decked doesn't bother me. I just wanted a real 427 and not a 454 block with 427 parts like the engine I blew up.

No, the engine looks good from where I'm sitting---When you mic and check clearences etc. you'll know for sure, ---guy has good feedback---Just curious--Did he agree to stand by the parts upon your inspection----------------The engine should look right at home in your car----with some inner attitude https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ns/burnout.gif

I'm in Pennsylvania working now so I'm thinking about picking it up in Illinois or meeting him somewhere in between. If I don't like what I see he won't get paid.

It appears to be an excellent base for a killer engine with great dates as well. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...iggthumpup.gif

Re: Thoughts on this engine?????

James,

Could you tell Why your previous motor blew up?

Since 512 blocks were built as 427s and 454s, I don't see why a 454 built as a 427 would make any difference as long as the rotating assembly was matched.

I'm sure with new pistons, you'll have this one balanced!

Have your balancing guy do a before and after comparison for you, showing the difference (printout) in out-of-balance weight at 6000 rpm. It's pretty amazing.

Good luck! BCD

just curious isnt the 6223 crank the replacement and not the L-88 crank. not trying to discount the deal you got, but L-88 stamped into a 6223 crank doesnt sound right to me.

I have been in Pennsylvania for the last 3 weeks so I haven't had a chance to tear the other engine completely apart yet. This engine was in my car when I bought it. Here is a picture of the # 6 cylinder. I know the fact that it was a 454 block didn't have anything to do with the problem and I could have gotten another 454 block for a few hundred dollars. I just wanted a real 427 engine.
I'm not sure about the crank but it doesn't matter to me.
