Shackles
 

What's the point of shackles? I've always assumed that it was to help raise the rear of the car some.

But I see that a '68 Motion car had shackles and air bags both.

I would say you are right. Raise the back, sometimes pre-load one side. Drivers side usually sags a little, this may help to even it out. Can help the slicks or tires to clear better. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ns/burnout.gif
