1967 Impala BB conversion
My friend Hans is going to put a 396 engine in an Impala he bought recently. He asked me if all BB Impala´s were SS cars, and if they had disc brakes as a mandatory option. He wants to make a correct conversion and still keep it low profile. With lots of power ! https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ns/burnout.gif
Were all -67 big block Impala´s SS cars with disc brakes ? Thank´s Anders |

Accorcding to this '67 SS 427 ad discs were optional. In '67, drum cars had hubcaps or wheelcovers while disc cars had Disc Brake wheels, as seen in this ad. From '68-on you could get "Rally" wheels on disc or drum cars.

Re: 1967 Impala BB conversion
Slightly off target, but I owned a 69 Impala that had an
original 396. It was a non SS original car. Power front drum brakes and THM400. Steve |
Re: 1967 Impala BB conversion
Supposably, the disc brake was mandatory on the SS427 cars but not the big block cars in general. However, I have personally found a couple of SS427 Impalas with non power drum brakes.

Re: 1967 Impala BB conversion
Thank you guys ! As a result of your replies, Hans will probably keep the drumbrakes on the car.
I assume putting a BB engine in a fullsize is pretty easy, or is there something he should consider ? Anders |
Re: 1967 Impala BB conversion
Outside of possible cooling issues, I can't think of any offhand. In may High School days, we did this swap quite routinely.

Re: 1967 Impala BB conversion
A friend of mine has a 67 Impala SS orginal 396 4 speed car and it has drum brakes and does not have too many issues hauling it down from speed.
