found a 396 exaust manifold

I was cleaning out my old garage where I lived back in 69-70 and found a perfect RH exaust manifold. #3856306 dated G31 5

I had a 325 or 350 hp motor one time and also had a 67 SS396 Camaro so it may be off either of those motors.

Re: found a 396 exaust manifold

That's a July 31st 1965 date,used on Passenger cars w/L-35 396-325HP specifically.
VERRRRY commonly used back then.
55,545 L-35's produced in 1965.
105,844 L-35's produced in 1966,which this date fits better.

Rick,
I'd say it's really on the cusp. Most passenger car plants made their model changeovers in the 2nd or 3rd week of Aug. And with the 65s and 66s being so similar, that model change was probably done in a week. With that many of those engines being installed, I'll bet the engines reached the assembly plants in less than 2 weeks after assembly.

Too bad that manifold isn't for an engine about 13 cubes bigger............... https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ins/tongue.gif

Re: found a 396 exaust manifold

I understand what your saying Verne, but actually this part# shows up as a 1965 model application Only, used on the PASSENGER cars & has bosses for heat tube..Not used in 1966 as I stated earlier.
In 1966 the RH Manifold had a different number,Part#3884504,and loss the heat tube bosses.
So I guess if this Manifold didn't find it's way onto a late build engine originally,it was really a service part.

Re: found a 396 exaust manifold

Were the heat tube bosses just a bump on the sides and not going down into the top of the manifold?

This thing still has black paint on it (Factory?) and orange overspray near the flanges. It was up in the rafters for a lot of years.

That must have been off the extra motor that I traded a '56 Nomad body for and then put it in a '64 Tan Chevelle 4 dr wagon body with a 4 speed behind it. Talk about a sleeper. Made a great tow vehicle too.

I will never forget using it to haul tree limbs to the dump one time and a kid in a 68 390 Mustang next to me at a light was laughing at me with the limbs hanging 4 to 6 feet out the back with the tailgate down. I had that thing stuffed really full.

The light changed and I put a car length on him across the intersection and he never did pass me. Sure gave me dirty looks at the next light.
