Ignition Switch Marking

When looking at Joe's '69 L78 Nova at the Pittsburgh WoW show, I noticed this bright red paint marker on the chrome ignition switch, on the steering column. It was only red on the recessed area of the switch. When I questioned Joe, he simply replied that it was on all of the cars they had restored.

I knew I didn't have it on my Yenko Deuce, and assumed that it had worn off during the years of use, even though something that bright should have stuck out in my mind when seeing other deuces. Joe had said that he didn't have to touch up the red mark on his switch, so logic says that I should have seen it on the low mile deuces. I planned to check my 69 Nova SS, which only has 62k miles on it.

I looked at my '69, and the red mark is there, no trace on my deuce though.

Did this red mark stop for the '70's?

Re: Ignition Switch Marking

I've seen it on Original 1970 cars, and up to 1971 vehicles in junkyards.I wouldn't say for sure it was original to all of them, but then it could've worn off too.(How they heck can it even wear away out of that recession anyway?)
I've had a few of those ignition switches NOS in the box,and they have the Flat Red paint mark too.I do see it visible in some of the 1970-71 35mm Chevrolet Dealer Filmstrips.
Possibly more then one plant made the switch for GM,and therefore the indifference?

I do like to see either a properly restored car,or survivor having this red mark as well as the Key Minder Buzzer working too.

Hmmm... so it's limited to pre-70 vehicles, what about orig condition '70 Yenko Deuces? Schoneye, what does you car have? We have documented mid-year changes on the Novas that occur in the middle of the 3 week deuce run, so maybe this is one of them?
