How do you tell the difference in the original and repo wood wheel horn cap?

Re: how to id a wood wheel cap
There are several places that make repro horncaps.. Trim Parts makes the best one, but it is not indistinguishable from original, and carries its own part # cast on the back, not a GM #. The most notable difference is the black paint behind the bowtie is usually just flat black on the repros, and originally it was a textured, almost "wrinkle" finish. The red, white and especially blue paints are a little brighter than the original GM shades as well...The rivets holding the inside retainer in are a bit different looking too, but still come loose just about as easy as the originals did. I have seen the repro caps for as cheap as 27.99 on ebay, plus shipping. The GM cap is no longer available, but a few NOS ones are still floating around at swap meets, ebay, etc.
