Battery Question.
The Z/28 has a build date of first week October 1969. What is the correct battery for the car? Top Post or Side Post? Where should the negative terminal be located (next to the fender or rad. shroud)?

Re: Battery Question.
Yours should be a side post. The switch from top to side post occurred sometime around late May - early June of '69. The negative cable remained on the fender side with it ending on the thermostat housing stud and the small extra ground wire into the fender.

Re: Battery Question.
I know it's not a 69 camaro, but...while researching into my 70 Monte Carlo, I found that if the heavy duty battery option was ordered, it came with side terminals, otherwise got the top posts.

Re: Battery Question.
I thought just the opposite for 69. I thougt after June you got side terminals, unless you ordered HD battery, in which case you got top posts.
Also, I thought small block grounded on the upper alternator bracket, and big block grounded on the block itself. |
Re: Battery Question.
I agree with drdave,
My 06A Survivor 69RSZ28 has side terminal cables ( original), and the original battery was a Y77. Very unique battery, the positive and negative cables have different bolt sizes in the side of the battery, 5/16" thread and 3/8" thread, making it impossible to hook up the cables incorrectly. The negative cable grounds to the stud that holds the upper alt bracket onto the thermostat hsg. I have owned the car since 1972 and it is documented. Just my .25 worth, hope it helps. |
