DEC 7th, 1941

63 years ago to the min (7:55 AM Hawaii Time) Pearl Harbor/Hickam Field/Wheeler Army Air Field and Kaneohe Marine Corp Base Hawaii were attacked and lives of both civilians and military were lost. Please take a min to remember those who gave all. Sad part is were losing these Men and Women that served in WWII at a rate of 1100 a month.

Seaman Noel Chapman one of the survivors from the USS Arizona who recently passed away, will have his urn of ashes placed in Gun Turret 4 on the Arizona and join his shipmates who died when the Battleship went down. One of those shipmates was his brother. They were one of 37 sets of brothers assigned to the Arizona. For those that dont know, Survivors from the USS Arizona may be return to the Ship they so loved and be with their shipmates. Also the USS Arizona still flys Ole Glory tall and proud along with oil that still leaks from her hull from the day it was sunk.

Also joining his fellow shipmates will be a Sailor Thomas C. Molay who was placed within the USS Utah.

Rest in Peace Sailors Chapman and Molay. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/flag.gif

On a serious note: Only someone that has visited there can really appreciate the emotion you experence there.

If there is nothing else in this world that you ever do!

https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/flag.gif Just once in your life, you have to visit the islands and especally the Arizona memorial before you meet your maker.https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/flag.gif

It is life changing to actually see it in person.

You will never forget it! I can gurantee you that!

My father served in the US Navy in the Pacific at the end of the war. The stories he told me were incredible. It is good that you reminded all of us of Dec 7th.It is easy to forget the sacrifices made by others so long ago.

I've been to the Memorial twice and it is something to see.
I even got to stay on the base for 10 nights and eat "mess" food. I hope to make it back there someday.

My Uncle was on the Oklahoma when it was hit by a torpedo, rolled on it's side and settled in the mud. Thankfully, he got out alive but was always haunted by the screams of his fellow ship-mates whom he couldn't save.

Let us never forget the brave men and women serving at Pearl Harbor on that 'infamous' day! https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/flag.gif https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/flag.gif

Here are a couple of pictures I took in early 2003.

First, the inside of the Arizona Memorial

Next, you can see some of the oil slick drifting by the gun turret

Finally, the men who gave their lives when the ship went down
