"Day 2" definition please
I have an idea what the term "Day 2" means, the second day of new car ownership, but I'd like to hear from the forum as to how the term came about and how it's applied to certain cars.

Re: "Day 2" definition please
Day 2 as used here means a car that was modified by the dealer after the owner bought it as opposed to before the owner took delivery.
Say a guy goes in to Yenko in 67 and buys a Camaro L78 and then goes racing. He decides that his car is not fast enough and goes back to Yenko and says ..."I want a 427 to make this thing faster." Yenko installs a 427 and what ever else the guy wants. This is a day 2 car. Please correct me if I am wrong guys. |
Re: "Day 2" definition please
That's not quite what it means to me!
Day 2 indicates a car that gets restored today with aftermarket speed parts specific to the '60's and '70's. The term 'Day 2' is used because so many guys installed their Cragars and traction bars the '2nd day' they owned it! What 'Day 2' is not: calling up Summit today with your credit card number and ordering up speed parts that are not from 'back in the day'. That is called 'Day 30+ Years', but is a lot easier than trying to find the correct original parts or the correct original speed parts! I think Day 2 cars done correctly are pretty cool, it's something more to learn since I was only 2 when my Yenko Deuce was produced https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/blush.gif |
Re: "Day 2" definition please
Hello---
Gotta go with Marlin on this one. I love Day 2 cars the most, I guess it's just what I remember and at this point in my life......they just put a big grin on my face when I see one!!!! However Marlin......my Cragars are new but my Lakewoods are old, please, please don't make me go looking for 30 year old Cragars...!!!!.......hehehe.... I think you were talking about carbs/intakes and other goodies. Am I correct??? I really want a Day 2 car, but I don't want a Year 30+ car... By the way.....Day 2 is REALLY not very popular with the younger folks......oh well... ktownkid |

please, please don't make me go looking for 30 year old Cragars...!!! [/ QUOTE ]If ya wanna get technical, old Cragars came in Chevy 4 3/4" pattern, not uni-lug like todays, and they also didn't have the encircled R next to the Cragar S/S logo on the cap, as the logo wasn't reserved until much later. Read a little on Cragar's history here. Cragar History[ QUOTE ] By the way.....Day 2 is REALLY not very popular with the younger folks......oh well... I think Day 2 cars done correctly are pretty cool, [/ QUOTE ] ...and deserve an awful lot of Respect today,as those "Day 2" parts are so Very difficult to find. I see "Day 2ing" as an owner just taking delivery of his New Machine, and going home to remove the SMOG components,if equipped,& other restrictive parts, then installing Headers,Cragars,Ladders,Thrusters,Tachometers and anything else that ends in ER. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/grin.gif All done By HIM, in HIS Driveway/Garage. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ns/worship.gif Just my "Day" .02 |
Re: "Day 2" definition please
No, Pro Street is popular with the younger guns. Like Marlin says...Jegs and Summit can help you in Pro Street. Day 2 really just means making something good a little better. That is one reason why Wally Parks pushed Hot Rod magazine because it gave the aftermarket industry exposure. A real good day 2 car is great to look at and rewarding to the owner, but one has to achieve a high level of condition and originality before you put it in Day-2. Remember the cars did come purely original once! If you young guys need to look at these Day-2 items just get in touch with Joe Barr and his brother Erik and get your notebooks and camaras ready. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ns/scholar.gif https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ns/burnout.gif

Re: "Day 2" definition please
Sam, sounds like you've got a great understanding of what "Day 2" is all about. So what are those BFG's doing on your otherwise perfectly period Z/28? https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ins/tongue.gif https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...iggthumpup.gif
