Yes they were the G.O.D's....but I'd be interested to hear how those 1967 dollars realate to 2004 dollars from an economist......I know personally when I got drafted in 1967 while training to become a machinist at BOEING, I was earning $3.05 per hour......Chuck S

$3.05 an hour was not bad in 67 or 68. My dad was making 5.50 an hour working for the power company in 1970. That was a good job in those days....still is.

Minimum wage in 1976-77 was $1.90 per hour...working at Robinsons (now Robinsons May department stores) Yea those were the good old days alright....not!

Back in '67 I was a barber/hairstylist and a good week was $150 take home pay. Not too bad for a single 20 yr old that never finished high school. My house payment was $68 per month. I bought it in late '64 for $800 down, when I was still 17. Oh and I stll own it today.

If I could buy a brand new, carb-to-pan crate Mark IV L72 from my Chevy dealer today for $7,970.00 I'd jump on it. Nickey sold them new in '67 for $797.00 so that's a 10-fold inflation rate.

My math: My Dad bought one of the last new '67 Austin Healey 3000's and paid $4500. A similar sports car today would have to be in the $40,000 range. My parents bought a new house in '68 for $33K (California) and similar houses where I live in Washington are at least $300K today. Maybe my math's a little "fuzzy" but we're just goofing off here right?

Using that calculator, $36-38,000 for a ZL-1 is still a bargain in 2004! Aaaahhhhhh, to have been born 2 decades sooner! Having been born in January 1969, I never had much of a chance. By the time I had a decent income, the cars were out of reach.
