Motion IROC-Z's

As I'm sure you are all aware, there was an article in the December 1987 issue of Popular Hot Rodding that showcases a 1983 Motion IROC-Z. This is the only article, or reference for that matter, I've been able to find on a third generation Motion Camaro.

Does anyone know the whereabouts of this car? How many Motion IROC's did Joel create and from what year to what year? What would it's value be today? I realize they're not Baldwin Motions (as Baldwin Chevrolet was long gone by the 1980's), but they are Motion vehicles none-the-less.

I don't know anything about this Motion one... but I do know that there wasn't an official Z-28 IROC until 1985... and it was NOT called an IROC-Z.

(I once looked at a 1984 Z-28 IROC, they insisted that it was real... even showed me the title).

Uuuuuhhhhh I may be having a senior moment but if my memory file I just pulled is still good, The first IROC;s were released in '84, I worked at the dealer and we recieved a few they were hard to get and people lined up to get them, I think we only got in three?? My buddy bought the Black one, the loan officer drove the yellow one as a demo for awhile and I dont recall what the third one was, It left the lot as fast as it rolled off the truck, the Black one had so many things wrong with it you would not believe it, it was in the shop almost every week, he finally gave up and GM took it back under the lemon law at about a year, I dont recall where the car went after we got it back, they were not all that fast, but we did lust for the wheels and tires off them https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ns/naughty.gif

Not to get off topic, but Chevrolet started public selling the IROC Camaro in 1985.
I bought a Loaded Demo 1984 Z/28 HO Camaro in October 1984 from Team Chevrolet, back then the IROC was just arriving for the 1985 new car year.I ended up trading in that 84 Z/28,for an 1985 Blue IROC shortly there after.I made them throw in the NEW IROC Presskit & stills, and Showroom pictures etc. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ins/tongue.gif

Re: Motion IROC-Z's

The Motion car pictured is definitely an 82-24 model, and based on a Z/28, not an Iroc-Z. The Iroc-Z was introduced for the 1985 model year, and was the first camaro to offer 16" wheels. Originally they were only offered with a 305 V8, either carburated or with TPI as an option A 5.7 Liter TPI 350 was offered beginning late in 1986, but only with an auto tranny. 1990 was the last year for the Iroc. The Z28 replaced it in 1991, and was the "top dog" in the Camaro linup once again, until the introduction of the SS model in 1996, in conjuntion with SLP.

The Iroc was indeed called an "IROC-Z" in 1985. The "IROC-Z" lower door graphics were the same (with the addition/deletion of color choices, and placement on the door) throughout the Iroc's lifespan from 85-90.

Hum... I guess I need to quit going off my memory and look up things right before posting https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/blush.gif I remember reading something about differences in the naming, something about Z-28 IROC and then IROC-Z. I can't find that right now though... I do see that the decal for all those years was IROC-Z

JUst to clarify, here is a scan of the article on the vehicle in question. Quite a machine! Would love to know what happened to it.
