Brake Dust.....
I really like the looks of the chrome 5-spoke ZR-1 style wheels on my 00 SS Camaro. However, I hate the way brake dust accumulates on the inside. Its very noticeable in the sunlight and makes a otherwise clean car look like crap! Perhaps other late model owners are seeing this same thing, in particular, 02 Zl-1 owners.
In the past, I've removed the wheels and scrubbed them clean which was time consuming and nothing but a hassle. Is there a product or coating that will help repel/shed the dust? Thanks for any help Gents. |

Re: Brake Dust.....
Thanks Mike....I'am well aware of detailing devices and cleaning products. My concern is as follows;
After thorough cleaning, what coating or product can I apply to limit brake dust build-up on the inside part of the wheel? Thanks for your help. |

Re: Brake Dust.....
Several years ago I saw a pair of shields that you put behind the wheel and in front of the disc brakes. The shield prevented the brake dust from getting to the wheel. Look like a great idea, but I did not worry about brake dust on my truck at the time. I saw them at PEP boys.
brb Ok did a search on "Disc Brake shields" and found this Disc Brake Dust Shields Anyone ever try them? Greg |
Re: Brake Dust.....
I've used the disc brake dust shields for years. They work great at preventing the dust on the exterior of the wheels. You will still have the dust on the interior of the wheel but you won't be able to see it.
I currently have them installed on my wife's BMW (all four wheels), my daily driver VW Beetle (all four wheels) and my Ford truck (all four wheels). Wheel cleanup is much easier with the shields. |
