Big Block Frame Mounts

I purchased new frame mounts for my 69 Nova restoration from Chevy 2 only. When you lay the mounts on a bench they are different heights.....the drivers side is higher than the passenger side. The passenger side also has a slot verses a hole for the motor mount bolts.

My question should these mounts be different heights ???

Any help is appreciated.

Re: Big Block Frame Mounts

Yes. All bb frame brackets position the engine approximately 1" to the right. If you intend to use a T400 you will also need the crossmember for it. Manual trans bb cars did use a different one than all sb but the sb crossmember can be re-drilled or use the later 1-bolt trans mount. You will also need the bb z-bar.

Be aware that '67-'68 brackets are not the same as '69. The '69 bracket is shorter and narrower, designed for the thicker interlocking motor mount. Problem is the '67-'68 motor mount will fit them causing all sorts of problems. Whatever you use the motor mount must be a tight fit on the bracket. If the fit is sloppy, with a 1/4 or so gap the mount is incorrect for the bracket.

William

Thanks for the information on the frame mounts I assume they are correct and for a 69 however I will get the motor mounts out and check the end clearance to be sure. I am installing a Merlin III block and a Turbo 400 with the correct transmission crossmember.

Again thanks for the help this is a great site the information is always helpful and correct.
