Crank Pulley Color
Can anyone enlighten me on the correct color for a 69 BB crank pulley? Some publications say semi or gloss black. Some say BB crank pulley should be natural. I have never noticed an unpainted BB crank pulley. Can anyone help?

Re: Crank Pulley Color
Reference material I have quote Roger Gibson, Jerry McNeish and the U.S Camaro Club's (R.I.P.) Frank Serafine as all saying Semi-Gloss. McNeish calls for 60% gloss......

This was always a controversy in the NCOA too. When Brian Caudell restored my friends LS6,and he took it to be Diamond Certified in 94,the Judges said No phosphated pulleys. As Brian had done to his pulleys. Later, someone very well in the NCOA,recanted this, and allowed it. Later, they retracted it again. It seems the Majority of the DG Pulleys were painted 60% black, but I would think some were releaased Phosphated. Just my .02 |
Re: Crank Pulley Color
Sprchvy, I dont know if this is any help, but ive had 3 or 4 NOS 291AB crank pulleys in the past ,and they were ALL phosphate. I have never seen an NOS 291AB that was painted black. I also assume you mean the deep groove version and not the 290ad.

Re: Crank Pulley Color
The only pulley on our '69 that was phosphated was the one on the AIR pump. The rest had a semi gloss paint. This was a late July car. Perhaps the over the counter parts were phosphated.

Re: Crank Pulley Color
The funny thing is all the 458da nos pulleys ive had were always black[whether they were stamped with the part# or ink stamped],go figure..

Re: Crank Pulley Color
What does a 647ap have to do with the question regarding 1969 ...647ap is a replacement pulley, and a sometimes accepted pulley for 1970 only.

Re: Crank Pulley Color
Chevy started phosphating pulleys in 1965. I have seen them both ways. Tinnell phosphated the pulley on my Yenko. It was the original pulley that came on the car and still had the phosphating on it.
