Motor Warranty of '69??

What was the standard Warranty period for COPO Camaros or Chevelles in 1969. Was it 1 year, 2 years, 3 years? In reference to that, was it possible that a 1969 COPO vehicles could have had a block replacement (under Warranty) as late as 1971?

I also have a question about casting dates. Could it be possible that a March built COPO Camaro or Chevelle have a 427 with heads that were cast in November '68?

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Mike

Mike, the warranty started when the car was sold. So a 69 car may have been sold in 70. In a few cases maybe even 71, who knows.

3 years or 36K miles was the standard even for the Hipo motors. Never blew one but sure beat up a bunch or trannys!

I'm not sure about COPO's, but MOTION 427 cars [ except the Vette ] were 90 days/ 4000 mi. on the power-train .PhaseIII SS-396 AND PhaseIII Z-28 carried the full 5 yr./ 50kmi. power-train warranty----1969.

The original owner of my car said he had the valvetrain replaced under warranty about a month in from when he got the car. Told me he had to write a letter to GM to get the dealer to honor the warranty. Funny thing though, for some reason they wouldn't warranty a series of busted M-20s!

I spoke with a guy whose father was a Chevy dealer back then. He said it was common for a guy to put a brick on the gas pedal when the car was at the end of the warranty. He said they put a ton of CE blocks in cars that the owners blew up on purpose.

The COPO Chevelle I had (Canadian) came with a 5 year 50K mile warranty. It was transferrable to the second owner within 30 days of purchase for a fee of $25.00. Any warranty work had a $25.00 deductable. Had I transferred the warranty over when I bought it in 1972 the warranty would have been good until August 1974.

Our COPO Chevelle had the standard 1 year 12K miles on the complete car and 5 year 50K miles on the drive train. The engine was apart twice while under warranty to address ring seal issues. Unlike other manufacturers, GM had faith in their engines. This car was as reliable as a rock and nothing ever broke in all the miles that it was driven.

My 69 L88 Corvette was delivered with a 12/12 - 5/50 warranty as well. The original warranty paperwork is still with the car. The original owner tells me since it was only driven to church on Sunday the warranty was never used.
