finding lost supercars

From time to time, the topic of how many, if any, unrestored supercars are there still out there, and if there are some, can they be found. Will, I guess this weekend proved a point. Not only did I pick up the Stinger, but drove just 30 miles and looked at perhaps the only Yenko ever made into a stock car. Not only did I get to see this '69 DY Yenko Chevelle, but saw a picture taken shortly after it was involved in a major accident (complete with all of the stripes/badges) and then another pic where the car had been transformed into a stock car.

And just received word that a COPO Camaro was discovered/bought at Charlotte this past weekend. Needing attention, but intact and legit.

So, as Jimmy V. once said. "Do not ever give up".

Tom,
can you give us more information on the Yenko stock car. I have heard rumors for years of a Yenko Chevelle that was raced complete with cut out wheel wells and roll bar. I thought I had even heard it raced here in Minnesota at one time. Sad story of a real car.

Sad, but true. A true stock car, including a bar along the bottom of the driver's side door. This car is sitting along side numerous 1st gen. Camaros, Chevelles and other cars of interest.

So is anyone going to attept a rescue on this Chevelle? A grave stone just doesn't seem fitting of one of these rare Super Cars if there's something to start with.

I was at Charlotte yesterday, it was a great show as it always is! Who found and bought the COPO, great to hear that another one of these cars will survive!

Any pics of the car? It would be kind of neat to have it restored as the stock car. A guy in my area picked up a totalled Hemi Challenger or 'Cuda when the car was wrecked in the early '70's and made it into a stock car also. All the good stuff (engine/tranny/rear etc)was gone when he got except what was left of the body shell. Ran at the local tracksin the '73-'75 era.

I was at Charlotte also and it was a GREAT Weekend. Brian Henderson found the Black '69 Camaro that was a original Cortez Silver C.O.P.O. Mark

Found the car Thursday and bought it Friday. It is still with Gary V in Charlotte. Car was in the last row in the Green field. Black paint with big rear tires. Older drag car look. The car has 9000 miles. Will need a total restoration to stock, but is presentable as is. The car needs rear quarters and some wheel houses but the trunk floor and frame rails are still in car. All floors are good. All the clues were there. Hi-performance disc brakes with correct dated parts. ZL/2 hood components all present and all piercings in the right place. BB heater box, correct frame stands, and factory spoilers. Four speed car. X44D80, 711, 69-69, 07A. Owner history may provide more clues. Was a WV car for years. The car will go to a good friend. They are still out there. Just do your homework...BKH
