How to restore this wood wheel?

1 Attachment(s)
Just picked this wheel up off E-bay for $4.25 and was wondering what would be the best way to try to bring her back to life?

I believe Grant still has this wheel in their catalog. It was around $65 last time I looked. I would venture to say a rechromer would want $100-125 to rechrome the center section alone. Call Grant to get the specs/part number. If you call Summit/Jegs the young salespeople will tell you they don't have it because it's too hard to look up/special order.

That looks like the earlier wheel with 4 holes in the spokes. The later wheel has 3 holes. I don't believe you can get that one any more.

Jeff, the wood can be restored using the same techniques that are used to restore furniture. I would contact someone in your area that normally does this and see what they would charge to do it. I had a Camaro about 10 years ago that had this same wheel on it and I took it to a friend that was a woodworker and he made it look better than new. I also had him put lots of clear varnish/laquer on it instead of just putting a light stain on it. Good luck... ..............RatPack...............
