Deuce waterpump
The waterpump on my car has a smooth top and has three lines of numbers:GM15,3853892,L189. The new GM pumps appear to have ribs across the top. Is my pump correct for the car?Is there a rebuild kit or service available? Or should I just get a rebuilt pump for $50 and forget it? Thanks!

Re: Deuce waterpump
Check your casting # again. I show 3853692 69-71 small block V-8. Get a rebuilt. They weigh less, have the correct look, are readily available from "real" parts stores and should cost about 25.00 including core.

Re: Deuce waterpump
Hi Bob;
Recheck the part number, I think it should end in ...692. The date appears correct, late '69. The later style H2O pumps with the reinforcing ribs are incorrect. It is best to reuse your original pump, just send it out for a rebuild. I sent mine to a place in Ft. Salonga (sp?), NY, it cost a whopping $65 - well worth the money. There are various vendors that advertise in Hemmings that will rebuild your pump, I can check my latest issue tonight if you'd like. |
Re: Deuce waterpump
Thanks. The numbers were very hard to read and I appreciate your responses. Marlin, if you find the rebuilder's name or phone number, I'll give them a call. Thanks again.
