Oil Change Schedule?

Guys I know that this as basic 101 automotive as you can get but I need to know!

I have a 1986 Monte Carlo SS five time Gold Spinner winner that I barely ever drive. It only has 20k miles on it and with my classics I change the oil every 3 months regardless of aquired miles. I may drive this car 500 miles a year TOPS. My mechanic told me after all these years that I am wasting my time and money. Could this be true?

I am asking you guys because I know a lot of you have cars like mine that you only drive occasionally.

Should I wait every 6 months, eight months, or what? Remember that I drive this car 300-500 miles annually.

Thanks in advance!

Re: Oil Change Schedule?

I agree, I change mine about once sometimes twice A year due to the mileage I put on them. I also can't afford to change it in one too often cause it holds 11 quarts! One thing I do though is when I get the cars out I drive them for A while and really let the oil get up to operating temperature. I have always been told it was bad on an engine to run them for short intervals when they dont get driven much. Tommy
