Disc Brake Master Cylinder Question.
 

I need a Master Cyl. for my disc brake set up on my 69 camaro ( Factory )
I was looking at a master cylinder for a 68-72 corvette and it apears to be the same .

Can anyone confirm or inlighten me on which parts are acceptable ?
Chevelle , Nova , ?

hugger, unless you have 4 wheel disc on your Camaro, the Corvette unit would not be the one to use. You need to get one off another Camaro, Chevelle or Nova with disc brakes.

I think the JL8 and Corvette master cylinders don't have the check ball or check valve like the front disk, drum rear cars do to reduce line pressure. At least that's the impression I got.

Thanks , i didnt think about the vettes being 4 wheel disc...

Back to the search for the right price i guess.


I have seen the Disc Brake master cyl. on ebay and some of the have the bleeder screws , some dont .
Whats the diff. here ?
Is it that the ones with are Original and with out are Repro's ?


Where can i get a booster CAD Plated ?
Is there a paint color that is close to the Cad plate color ?

OK , thats all the ?s for now...

JC, if you are not concerned with 100% correctness then you can get a master cylinder from your local NAPA store that is the correct shape as original. It does not have the bleeder screws, casting number, or the small machined pad at the front where the US stamp was at, but otherwise looks correct. I have only found this master cylinder at NAPA as the rest of the parts chains have gone to a style that functions correctly but does not look anything like the original one.

There are a couple of good places to get your booster redone. Steve Gregori in Sanger CA does an oustanding job and you can contact him at www.brakeboosters.com for more info. Also Jerry MacNeish does them and his look just as good. Check out www.z28camaro.com for more from him.

We can also replate you power booster. As for master cylinders I may have a few with bleeders that are not US 309's but work well. A booster will only look as good as the core you have. A pitted core will look like a nicely plated pitted part. Call 724-532-1975 if interested in this service.

I believe JL8 equipped cars used the same 309 master as standard front disc cars. The proportioning valve was removed for the JL8 option.
