Big Block Radiator Question

I am having trouble figuring out what the deal is with the radiator in my Harrell car. The header part of the radiator is different than any one I have seen. I tried to put the clutch fan on it but there is not enough clearance. It is a 4 row core. It is a harrison radiator. Could it have had a bigger core installed at one time? It looks like it is the same one that was in the pictures the original owner sent me but I cannot be sure. The photos he sent were with the fan shroud still installed. Here is a picture if the radiator.

Any ideas?
Thanks,

Jason

Any of the L78 Chevy IIs that I have ever seen didn't have clutch fans because there was no room so I was told. The fans made as much noise as the engine.

Re: Big Block Radiator Question

It appears that the radiator has been recored. The factory core would be a three row. It would have a clutch fan with a seven blade fan...BKH

Re: Big Block Radiator Question

The clutch fan shafts come in different lengths for different applications. Make sure you have the correct length shaft but with the four core your fan will be very close to the radiator even with the correct clutch.

Re: Big Block Radiator Question

I figured it was a recore but I wanted to make sure. It is the correct date 772 fan that I am trying to put on it, so I don't think that is the problem. I only reason I asked is because the radiator appears to be the same one as in the pictures I have of the car from the early 70's and the shroud is on in those pictures.

Thanks,

Jason
