1968 m21

I've always known the M21 in my 1968 Z/28 wasn't the original. It turns out to be from a 1968 Oldsmobile built in Lordstown. The partial vin is had to read. I know we have an orphan spot here, but I was wondering if there is a specific Olds site for the same. If I don't find the car, the transmission is going back into my car. Thank you, Joe

Lordstown built Fullsize Chevy and Pontiac Firebirds. Can you post the vin and date code?

Assm number is P8R17. Partial VIN is 38V105967....Joe

No question that "3" is an Oldsmobile.

The "V" is perplexing. I cannot find a Plant code for V.

Sure it isn't an "M" stamped poorly? That would be for Lansing, MI. 442s and even H/O were built there in 1968.

I looked again & I honestly can't confirm what the letter that is. It's could be a "M"....Joe

Take a good close up pic from a few different angles, Joe. I've seen a picture highlight shadows and reliefs in situations like that and make it more visible.
That transmission I asked about was like that. I thought it had an F until I posted the pic on here and I could see it was a partial P.

I'm thinking it might be a "Y" for the Wilmington plant. More than likely, a Cutlass.

That's one of my tricks :) The trans is out & sitting on the floor. I've shined the light side to side to create shadows & top to bottom to do the same. It's been scratched in that area & is no longer 100% legible. I even took the shifter off since the VIN is on that side. I guess I was thinking that with knowing it's Olds & the last 6 might lead to an entire VIN. It most likely will return to my car once I reseal it....Joe

If it's a good trans and you're happy with, keep it until you find something closer to your build.
