Factory red oxide floor pan primer
When I was at MCACN in November I saw a vehicle with factory red oxide floor pan primer finish. The owner had put some sort of oil or preservative on it to help preserve the finish I guess. Would this be something that needs to be done and if so what do you guys recommend? I don’t know if it really needs anything because of the oil softening or ruining the factory finish?

Our 62 Impala has restored (from the late 90's) red oxide floors. After I pressure washed the underside and chassis to clean things up I sprayed everything including the red oxide finishes with Boeshield. I am happy with the result.

Ive never read or seen where the "big name" Resto Shops are coating painted underfloors with anything !!!!!!!!!
I'd be interested to learn if a paint SEALANT as used on Exterior Paint would be beneficial ??? |

Probably "hillbilly hack" stuff but it worked well.
Gibbs oil and a soft brass toothbrush. Pic 1 is from sellers ad and is probably why we got it so cheap. Video on it stated "rusted out doors and floors' Look that way to you? Pic 2 is after first round of cleaning and has dirt stuck to oil from driving. Pics 3- 5 are after first round of cleaning and sprayed with brake kleen. Pic 6 is inside of drivers door with no cleaning required. All except pic 2 before oiling. No current pics bit it is cleaner now. Most of the brown- crusty looking stuff was staining. Hosed the entire underside and inside doors- quarters etc. with Gibbs oil. It does nothing to paint. GOOD STUFF |
