Brake caliper application
5 Attachment(s)
The calipers I removed from my '70 Chevelle are 636 and 637. From what I find, they are for a Camaro ? Side by side they are nearly identical to the 700-701 Chevelle calipers. The 700-701 castings are thicker so there is a physical appearance difference that would not be seen on a car.
Question is, would the 636/637 calipers have been installed on a 1970 Oshawa Chevelle ? If not, I'll have a nice set for sale. They are painted black with what seems to be Red Oxide under it too. Original, or not ? |
Hey Mitch.
I’ve always understood those to be 1969 Chevelle calipers. For what it’s worth. Cheers, Anthony |
The casting numbers are 5463636 and 5463637 and my understanding is they came on 1969 and early 1970 Chevelles, Camaro, Novas and over onto the other GM makes as well. I have inspected several LS6 Chevelles with these calipers so they must have been using them late into 1969. I unfortunately never documented the cut off period so I am not sure when they changed over to the 700/701.

Thanks Rick, this a first week of May build, so might be a stretch for them to be original, but maybe they didn't go thru a supply as fast in Oshawa ?
Any thoughts on the calipers, master and booster being painted black with red oxide primer under it ? Again, an Oshawa anomaly ? |

Thanks Rick. At first I thought it was just PO applied, but when I found the Red Oxide under the black, that makes me wonder.

All 3 of my 69’s have 636 and 637 calipers on them. Latest build date 3 week of may.
