PLEASE CALL WITH ANY QUESTIONS.** This unique 1997 Yamaha YZ125 Kevin Windham Tribute Motocross Motorcycle is an awesome piece for a motocross enthusiast or collector. It was professionally restored by expert John Chang of Moto Scrub located in California. The entire build from start to finish is fully documented on a You Tube video which is presented in the gallery. This video is a MUST SEE! It was completed in 2022 with only 12 minutes run time on VP Racing fuel. Upon completion it was sold to MS CLASSIC CARS and has been used as a display piece in the showroom. October of 2025 is the first time it's been for sale. Kevin Windham is an American former professional motocross racer often referred to by the nickname “K-Dub”. At 17 years old he received a factory ride from Team Yamaha. He achieved back to back AMA 125 West Supercross Championships in 1996 and 1997. This example is a tribute to the 1997 championship bike. In 1999, Windham won the United States Grand Prix of Motocross held at Budd's Creek, Maryland. He achieved the 2005 Motocross des Nations team championship and was 2nd in points for the 2008 supercross season. Windham has finished second in the overall points standings five times and was one of the oldest riders on the track in 2011. He announced his retirement from racing at the third round of the 2013 supercross season. He's regarded as one of the most naturally talented riders to compete in motocross and supercross. This 28 year old classic motocross motorcycle was the product of a complete nut and bolt restoration. It was disassembled to the bare frame. The semi-double cradle aluminum frame was stripped and powder coated the factory shade of blue. The frame was outfitted with a Lightspeed carbon fiber frame guard, Works Connection aluminum side frame guards and IMS Pro-Series foot pegs. The original two gallon fuel tank was polished and Thick Stuff graphics were applied. A set of plastics from Genuine Yamaha Technology Racing was added which includes a blue front fender, blue radiator shrouds, front white number plate, side white number plates, white rear fender and white fork guards. The plastics were decorated with decals including Kevin Windham #38 badging. It was outfitted with an N-Style All Trac Gripper blue seat cover. The suspension was completely vapor blasted which including the swing-arm, rear shock and clevis. The front 46mm inverted Kayaba telescopic forks were revalved with Race Tech Gold Valves and the Kayaba monoshock rear spring was powder coated blue. A set of Pro Circuit bronze top handlebar clamps were added along with Pro Taber handlebars, pad, grips and clutch lever sport cover. The braking system was replaced new with Nissin and Galfer parts. It's equipped with a 250mm front brake disc and 245mm rear brake disc. The original 124cc liquid-cooled two-stroke engine was completely vapor blasted and disassembled. The top end was rebuilt included new hone, Yamaha piston and rings. Some other engine parts include Boyesen Super Stock reeds, Hinson clutch components and Boyesen black engine side covers. The original Mikuni TMX carburetor was completely rebuilt and new hoses were added. The engine is rated with 34hp and has a 6-speed manual transmission. The engine breathes through a nickel plated pipe and Pro Circuit R-304 silencer. The power is transferred to the Vortex sprockets and DID 520 DZ2 gold chain. The Takasago rims were rebuilt including re-lacing and truing. The wheels were mounted to Bridgestone Battlecross X20F tires that are 80/100-21 on the front and 100/90-19 on the rear. A new FX Factory Effex V.1 Yamaha blue stand is included. |
