Microwave Oven...

Our GE countertop microwave finally died [after 25 years]...trying to find a 'made in the USA' replacement. Looking online is hopeless...all the links say made in USA and then you scroll down and see made in China.

Any help from the SYC kitchen folks would be welcome.

Try the Amana brand. Many brands now fall under Whirlpool.

GOOD LUCK.

Most of the manufacturers are intentionally vague on this.

When pressed for info, an employee of Frigidaire (now owned by Electrolux, I believe) the following was disclosed.

Got that list from this website. https://allamerican.org/lists/

Sadly, I could not find a definitive answer regarding made in USA microwaves.

Ranges – Springfield, TN
Built-In Cooking – Memphis, TN
Microwaves – China
Top Mount (under 20 cu ft) – Anderson, SC
Top Mount (over 20 cu ft) – Juarez, Mexico
Side-by-Side – Juarez, Mexico
French Door Bottom Mounts – Juarez, Mexico
All Freezer (Twins) - Anderson, SC
Large Upright - St. Cloud, MN
Stainless Tub dishwasher – Solaro, Italy
Plastic Tub dishwasher – Kinston, NC
Laundry Center - Juarez, Mexico

So, it appears that only some of their appliances (but not microwaves) are made in the USA.

Wilma, grab a multimeter and pop the cover on the microwave. Make sure it's unplugged! There should be 2 or 3 microswitches that are near the door mechanism. If I remember correctly 2 of them are in series, not sure. The main thing is, check them for continuity, make sure they're making and breaking contact properly. I still have the 1st microwave I ever bought, 1989 I think. I've had microswitches fail 2 times in all the years. I replaced the bad one and away we go. It may not be the switches in yours, but worth the check.

I would love to try that...but we took it to the dump this morning. Never even thought about a repair :frown: Should have though...I just replaced the igniter in our 20 year old gas range...it works great now :smirk:

Thanks for the input...

Amana is owned by Whirlpool as well as KitchenAid, Maytag, and JennAir.
We bought a new Whirlpool micro wave shortly before our 3 year old Kitchenaid refrigerator failed and I spent well over $400 out of my pocket repairing known, common issues that Whirlpool refused to cover. Both the refrigerator and microwave are made in China. They just use the "Made in the USA" label as a way to get people to buy their chinesium crap.
I never did find an American made appliance, although some say "assembled in the USA of foreign materials". Wow, Americans assembling the same crap as they are in china doesn't make it any better.

I don't know how accurate this is but maybe it's somewhere to start.

the ranges made in Springfield are built by illegal Mexicans that don't speak English.
