Suffix code
 

Okay folks, I just purchased a '69 427 4-bolt block. The early casting date is H-22-8. It is a short run 3955270 casting(6-8 weeks?) It was assembled in September and has a BL suffix code. I am not finding anything in my reference material for BL. I'm heading back to Michigan now and would appreciate any help. I can take and post pics once I get home tonight.

I bet its 7BL. That is a marine code. I've had a few of them. The ones I had with that code were L88 closed chamber engines with cast iron 3919840 heads.

Thanks Jason. I believe you are spot in. This block has been "lightly" decked but, I can easily see the BL and there is a space in front of the B that doesn't show up well..I bet it's a 7. Now that I know what to look for, I'll check it out and get back with you. Pretty cool story you posted about these.
