'68-69 Camaro Spoiler Stud Repairs
Hi folks,
The original spoiler on my '68 L78 car sheared a few studs when I removed it from the car, and a couple other studs stripped out the fiberglass holes when I unscrewed them from the spoiler. The spoiler itself is quite nice and is original to the car, so I do plan to fix the stud bosses. I have heard people having good luck drilling the holes oversize and filling with JB Weld, but I'd like the opinions of the folks on this board before I tear into it. Appreciate the feedback! -Tony |
Studs
HI Heart Beat City sells the studs . and yes J B weld will work

Nothing wrong with JB weld, but I really like the PC-7.
I think it is even stronger. |
I had a similar problem with PC-7. I had to rebuild a couple of bosses, and when dry, I shaped them with a Dremmel. We are dealing with 50 year old plastic, and I was afraid I might have more studs pull out, so I installed those little spring clips over the studs and set their height such that they would contact the deck lid. Took a little trial and error to get the height right. Then I covered the clips with a small amount of PC-7 to protect the deck lid from getting scratched. So when I installed the spoiler, all the tension was held by the spring clips, not the spoiler, itself. Not the way the General did it, but he was using new spoilers, not 50 year old ones.

https://www.mcmaster.com/wood-screw-studs When I look at ebay or Heartbeat the offered replacement studs have a hex flange, I am not sure of the proper stud on a production 68 & 69 Spoiler. My 68Z w/ an Owner modified "GM" spoiler has the style pictured above & McMaster does offer the stud in stainless. |
