#340292 sbc heads

HI

can anyone tell me more about the following sbc heads

casting #340292 – 1970 replacement, angle plugs, 64cc chambers

1)are they rare?
2) were they a replacement head for the #3927186 head on the LT1 sbc? if not what were they a replacement for?
3) valve sizes?
4) and finally what are they worth reconditioned?

thanks so very much
chris

Chris,

I have been running those heads on my 302 for 15 years...they are my favorite!

They have been called 292 "Turbo" heads when they first came out in the early 70's

Valve size are 2.02 intake. If you have the book..."How to Hot rod the small block chevy" it

is the center section for these heads. They were for racing over the counter heads and were

the best at that time. Now, there are CNC machined heads that are better but I still

love them. I also have an NOS set that has 2.05 intakes and ported. You have to have them

checked for cracks around the valve area when they are redone too many times. Not sure

on price anymore but a good set redone will get you to $1000 easy if good and crack free. I

had Manley Severe duty stainless valves put in the heads I run now. They fit with Hooker

Super Comp headers and use the Peanut plug {5/8} I use NGK plugs. Great set of heads

but not factory installed that I know of.

Chris,

They should have screw in studs and guide plates as well.
