1968 Ford Fairlane 500 Fastback Survivor 390 4spd
 

For sale is a '68 Ford Fairlane 500. The car is a factory 390 4bbl (S code), 4 speed car, with factory buckets and console. Just 367 390, 4-speed Fairlanes were made in '68. This was the top dog drivetrain until the Cobra Jet came out in April, 1968. According to the 2nd owner, the car was taken to Jack White Ford here in Milwaukee and treated to a Cobra Jet Holley carb, dual point distributor, and 3.89:1 rear gears to help it perform like a Cobra Jet would. The car pulls nicely and runs well. The car currently shows 87,XXX miles, but I don't have paperwork to back the miles. The car looks like a cared for 87k car to me. Full Marti report is included.

I don't have this car ready to list with 300 photos and video yet, but I thought I'd get the word out. I purchased this '68 Fairlane 500 Fastback from a close friend earlier this spring to help him close the deal on a '69 Mach 1 390 4 speed car.

My buddy purchased the Fairlane from who he believes was the 2nd owner last year. The car was originally sold in Oregon, but made its way back to Wisconsin early in its life. The car has had one repaint, due to a front end accident, sometime in the mid seventies. It saw just a couple Wisconsin winters, but was used in summer months a majority of the time.

The car needed a new water pump after my friend purchased it. While changing the water pump, he was going to do some under hood fluffing, which he started. At that time, the '69 Mach deal started to come together, so I purchased the Fairlane as you see it. I prefer survivor cars unfluffed, if possible, so I did not continue painting items under the hood.

Inside, the carpet has been replaced, the rest is original. The kick panels were in rough shape, so my buddy was going to order reproductions when the carpet was replaced. I purchased the car before he could buy the kick panels, so those need to be installed to finish off the interior.

The exterior shows nicely, with some very minor bubbling in just a couple spots and the paint wearing thin in a few spots. The paint has great patina, yet really nice depth. Many people as if it's original paint. The chrome and trim shows nicely and also does not need to be replaced.

The undercarriage is also nice. The torque boxes are in great shape, as are the trunk drop-offs. I did notice that the strut bushings should be replaced.

Attached are a few photos. If anyone is seriously interested, I will be happy to take more detailed photos. I plan to get the car formally listed for sale online within the next couple weeks. The car needs some detailing and tweaking, but is as honest to goodness as it gets.

Thanks for the compliment, Taz. I wish the circumstances around me purchasing the car were different. Mike needed this car sold on <span style="font-weight: bold">short </span>notice to buy that Mach 1, but the timing isn't right for me to keep it. Too many irons in the fire for my comfort level right now.

I had the Fairlane out Sunday afternoon and had an absolute blast. After having a string of survivor cars in the last 4-5 years, I don't think I'll own anything but survivors.

I finally had some time to get a proper ad put together. The Fairlane is now listed on eBay with some additional photos and a few videos. It's a neat car.
