71 Nova overflow tank
I'm not thinking the 71 Nova was originally equipped with a radiator overflow tank. With that being said, I want to install a tank on my 71. The only ones I see while scanning the internet are really "seedy" looking fit-all. Are there any suggestions from the experts -- a tank that will serve the purpose and look close to factory? Thanks in advance for the input! TAZ

Re: 71 Nova overflow tank
Considering the sub-frame is the same as the 69 Camaro and if the Nova didn't come with an overflow, I'd probably put a 69 Camaro tank in it. I know, very loose relationship... Very easy install and I'm sure it would look the part of factory.

Re: 71 Nova overflow tank
I have installed an aftermarket overflow unit in the space next to the battery...basically hidden by the pass. side front fender. The hose runs under the battery box and is well hidden. I believe there were factory overflow tanks available that will fit the 71 Nova....they may have been an option for A/C equipped cars and/or possibly for cars sold in the southwest or desert areas with high heat conditions. I have seen photos of them before...I think they look like this...they mount to the inside of the fender and fit over the contour of the inner fender...wilma

Re: 71 Nova overflow tank
I'd rather repalace my washer fluid jar with a repro and plumb a line over that way. looks much better than a added jar. How much do you use your squirters???

Re: 71 Nova overflow tank
Look at 75-79 Nova plastic tanks. They tuck in perfectly behind the battery on a 68-72, and if I recall correctly, you don't even need to drill a mounting hole, as I seem to remember they fit in an existing stamped hole.

Re: 71 Nova overflow tank
Here is a picture found on the net showing the bottle behind the battery. It is more concealed when you use it on a 68-72, as all you see is the neck poking around the corner of the battery. Very factory look for anyone that doesn't know it doesn't belong there.
EDIT: image not working for some reason - go here and look at pictures of engine compartment on this car. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Chevrolet-No...m=391383574024 |

Re: 71 Nova overflow tank
I'm the 2nd owner of my 71 Nova, I got it in 1991. The car was untouched with 29,000 miles. The litle old lady literally put 7 miles on it the last year she had it. With that being said, my car did not have an overflow tank. It did have A/C on the 307. It's a lifelong Nebraska car, sold new in Lincoln and been in Omaha since day 1.
