Early to mid 60's muscle car wanted

Hi everyone. I came across this forum while searching for an early '60s GM car. My preferred car would be a '66 Chevelle 300 or SS (I'm trying to reach Micky Hale on his that's listed in the classifieds).

Overall my interest is in muscle cars from the'60s. My intention would be to drive it only on nice days, local cruises and car shows. Never to see rain and always kept super clean. Maybe a track visit to see how it runs, but mainly to drive around town. Car has to accommodate wife and 2 kids (ages 8 & 11) for the Sunday afternoon drive to the ice cream shop :)

I've always been a GM fan, Ford and Plymouth's aren't out of the possibilities though. I like the sharp lines and aggressive stance of most early to mid '60 cars.

Performance is a must, manual or automatic transmission. I wouldn't be hitting the track often, but like most guys I'd like to have the horsepower/torque and the drivetrain to back it up. Prefer to run pump gas. I've seen some nice cars running E85, not sure if that's the route for me.

Interior to remain classic with the appears of being original and in excellent shape. Heavily modded and custom interiors aren't my thing.

Probably goes without saying, the car must be able to run on the street legally. Body, paint, interior all to be without issues and no work needed. Not looking for a trailer queen or to keep behind velvet ropes, but no rust/body filler or junk filled with aftermarket parts made in China either.

Would also prefer to know the history, especially if the car has been restored. I like seeing the before/after pics to give me confidence in the restoration process. There's something to be said for someone who takes the time and pride to document the major steps along the way. Convertibles would also be considered, AC would be a bonus as St. Louis summers get hot but not a must. Basically I'm looking for a car someone took great pride in building, owning and maintaining.

Finally, car DOES NOT need to be numbers matching and all that jazz. I want to drive it, have fun and not worry about how often it's driven or the keeping the original integrity of a car to maintain collector value. Cars are meant to be driven and enjoyed, I won't hesitate to drive it for a week straight if the weather's sunny and in the mid-70's either. I take extremely good car of my cars, maybe too much according to my wife :)

I have a finished 3-car garage that's fully insulated and looking for the "right" classic car. I'd summarize by saying the right car would be kept simple, fast and of high quality.

PM me if you know of a car or have one that sounds like a good fit. Thanks for reading and sorry for the long post.

Budget depends on the car, condition and how much documentation the car had before/during/after restoration.

Over the past few month I've seen a few '66 Chevelle 300's, they have made it high on my list. I was to slow in pulling the trigger, especially on this one: RK Motor's 1966 Chevelle 300. It sold in 1 day. This is a perfect example of what I'm looking for. Before/after pics, clean restoration with high-end performance parts.

Show me a car that wasn't junk to begin with, a well-documented restoration and the finished product, we can then talk budget. Not saying I have deep pockets, but I'd rather pay extra for a great build, originating from a car that didn't need all new aftermarket panels, sheet metal work/body filler and was built with performance in mind.
